It sits below BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe) in the grading hierarchy: finer particle size, higher surface area, faster and stronger extraction. This is what gives Talayar Tidings its thick, dense body and pronounced astringency — qualities that make it an outstanding chai base when brewed with milk and spices. Designed for maximum strength rather than nuance; built to cut through milk the way a great everyday chai should.
    Supermarket chai teas are typically blended CTC from multiple estates across Assam, West Bengal, and South India — mixed for consistent colour and strength batch to batch, with no single-origin character. Talayar Tidings is single-estate: every batch comes exclusively from Talayar Tea Estate in the Kannan Devan Hills, Munnar. The difference shows in the depth — brown sugar, dark fruit, and molasses notes that blended everyday CTC simply doesn't carry. Same bold strength; noticeably more personality in the cup.
    Talayar Tidings is calibrated specifically for strong, milk-forward chai. The BP grade's fine granules produce a thick, dense liquor with high astringency that holds up to heavy milking and spicing without turning flat. Surianalle Sequel (BOP grade) has coarser granules and a slightly more layered character — better for a nuanced cup with or without milk. If you brew a very strong, traditional masala chai with a lot of milk, Talayar Tidings. If you want a more rounded everyday cup that works in multiple ways, Surianalle Sequel.

CTC granules are spent after a single brew: the high surface area releases all extractable flavour in one steep, so re-steeping is not effective. But 125 cups from one pack is strong value for a Rainforest Alliance certified, single-estate CTC black tea from Talayar Estate, Munnar.
    Yes — it's specifically designed for this. Brew the liquor first: 2g per 150ml at 90–95°C for 3–5 minutes (adjust steeping time for preferred strength). Add ginger, cardamom, or other spices directly to the liquor during the steep. Then pour in hot milk — a 1:1 ratio for a balanced cup, or 2:1 tea to milk for a stronger pull. Sugar to taste. The BP grade's tannin structure is built to hold its character through milk without going flat.
