Frequently Asked Questions
When you pour water over the leaves, each coil slowly unfurls over 2–3 minutes, releasing colour and flavour in layers. A glass vessel makes this fully visible. Once open, the leaves are whole and intact — the clearest sign of SFTGFOP1 whole-leaf quality.
In plain terms: no dust, no fannings, no broken grades. This is why The Pattumalay Emerald brews a light, vibrant green liquor — not the murky brown of a standard teabag.
Brew at 80–85°C for 3–4 minutes. Without a thermometer: boil your water, wait 4–5 minutes, then pour. If your past green tea experience involved teabags or boiling water, this will taste like a different category of drink entirely.
The Pattumalay Emerald is lighter, floral, and naturally sweet — closer in character to a fine Chinese green tea than either Japanese style. If you've found sencha too grassy or matcha too intense, this is a strong alternative.
For a single-estate SFTGFOP1 green tea from Pattumalay Estate, Idukki, that's competitive with any premium green tea available in India. To try a smaller amount first, The Munnar Quintessence includes a 15g portion alongside five other single-estate teas.
The first steep (3–4 min at 80–85°C) is the brightest and grassiest. The second is softer and sweeter. The third is mellow and delicate. Add 30 seconds to each successive steep. Most people find 2–3 steeps genuinely satisfying — not just functional.
Cold brewing eliminates any bitterness risk entirely and produces a clean, naturally sweet infusion. It also retains more L-theanine and catechin content than hot brewing — making it a genuinely functional cold drink, not just a refreshing one.
Drink it as brewed — without milk or sugar. The natural sweetness in a well-made cup makes both unnecessary.
The Pattumalay Emerald's SFTGFOP1 whole-leaf grade means intact catechin content — unlike broken or dust grades used in most teabags. Brewed without milk or sugar, it's also a zero-calorie drink. Two to three cups a day is a sensible, low-effort addition to any weight-management routine.
Keep it away from direct sunlight, heat, and strong-smelling spices. Green tea absorbs surrounding odours quickly — store it away from coffee and anything pungent. A properly resealed pack stays at its best for 2–3 months. Green tea has a shorter optimal window than black tea once opened, so brew through it steadily.
For pregnancy, the general clinical guideline is under 200mg of caffeine per day. One to two cups fits comfortably within that. Individual advice from a doctor is always recommended.
For a broader gifting experience, The Munnar Quintessence includes a 15g portion of The Pattumalay Emerald alongside five other single-estate teas from Munnar and Idukki.
